PEACE RIVER COUNTRY LAND SETTLEMENT
DIGITIZATION PROJECT to 1914
This database contains information taken from the land files of the Canadian Department of the Interior held by the Provincial Archives of Alberta and the British Columbia Archives and Records Service. The files consulted for this database relate to over 6,500 applications for Crown land, and the allotment of homesteads and other public lands, to settlers in the Peace River Country of Alberta and British Columbia up to the end of 1914.
The information was gleaned by Dr. David W. Leonard and was entered onto this database by Beverly Whalen of the Monkman Homestead Preservation Society. It was supplemented by information from various local histories and other sources gleaned by Lynda Boyd of the Society. This database was devised Chris Levoir of the Arts, Commerce & Education Department of Grande Prairie Regional College.
Neither the publisher nor the editors will verify the accuracy of this information, only that it is recorded on documents in the land files or is in local histories or other sources. On the land files, the information was invariably supplied by the land applicants themselves.
This publication was undertaken with a generous grant provided by the Alberta Historical Resources Foundation. The publisher would also like to acknowledge the important assistance of the Heritage Resource Management Branch of the Alberta Department of Community Development.
